Waste Recycling

One thing is for sure; as long as there are people there will be waste.

Our goal is to harness that waste for energy and in the process, eliminate it from landfills, rivers, and oceans.

The world's technologies have come a long way in less than a generation. We can now easily and affordably convert many kinds of waste into energy without emitting greenhouse gases and other pollutants.

Part of Sterling's vertical integration to making energy is to collect, sort, and process waste so that it can be converted into energy that replaces traditional fossil fuels.

Construction and Demolition Waste

We collect and sort over a quarter of a million tons of waste from construction sites and demolished buildings. This diverts it from landfills where it can leak greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and leach contaminants into groundwater.

Our large-scale automated sorting facilities have a reclamation rate of 80-90% which means for every ton we collect, as little as 200 pounds will actually go to landfill. The rest is sold to be reused or converted safely to energy; electricity, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and gasoline.

 Municipal Solid Waste

"Black Garbage Bag" waste includes everything a typical household throws out every day. In the USA that is as much as 3 billion pounds a year! Intercepting it from landfills, sorting it into useful portions for recycling, and converting the balance to energy saves that vast majority of it from going to landfills.

Farm Waste

We collect used animal bedding, manure, and crop waste and process it through a combination of anaerobic digestion and gasification to keep it from contaminating rivers and streams, or disintegrating and dissipating methane into the atmosphere.
